Friday Club Night

Branxton Greta Swim Club hires the pool from 6pm on a Friday night to hold timed races for swimmers who want to compete, as well as fun novelty events for all swimmers who aren’t yet ready to try racing, regardless of age. Friday Club Night is open to all our swimming members. We are planning to hold some fun water activities to encourage all children to attend and become comfortable with competition. This is a fun, family oriented evening that we would love to see all squad swimmers participate in.

At the first Club Night of the season, swimmers’ times are recorded, and are placed into a level / grade. There are five grades, A through to E, which you move through as your personal best time improves. For example, if you swim 25m in 27 seconds or more, then you are placed into E grade. When you swim 25m in less than 27 seconds, then you move up a grade. Throughout the season, you will race against other children in the same grade, and your times are recorded.

All new swimmers who start after week 4 will start in grade D, and grading times must be swum twice in order to move up a level.

Point Score Champion

Points are awarded each week for improvement on personal time, not on who wins the race. Essentially, everyone is only competing against themselves, and aiming to improve their times.  These points accumulate throughout the season, and are tallied at the end of the season. Those with the highest score are awarded a trophy for the Point Score Champion at the presentation.

For completing a swim

1 point

For swimming a new personal best

For moving up a grade

Fri night club night commences at 6pm sharp, so please ensure you arrive by 5.45pm for a warm up swim to avoid injury. Swimmers will usually compete in three events each Club Night.

Fri Club Night Volunteers

As the club is completely run and managed by volunteers, all the jobs on club night also need people to undertake them. As you can imagine, there are lots of things that need to happen on Club Night, and it is only through parent volunteers, that it can occur. Assistance is required for the following jobs;

-        6 timekeepers                              - 1 starter

-        1 head timekeeper                       - BBQ helpers

-        1 marshal

If these positions are not filled, then we are unable to proceed with Club Night. These volunteer positions are an enjoyable part of being a member of the club, and community. We expect that a member of each family will be required to volunteer at least four times throughout the season, and we will have a volunteer sign in to record your participation.

In the event of inclement weather (including lightning), a decision will be made in conjunction with the Pool Manager as to whether squad or club night will proceed. Please phone the pool after 5pm on 02 4938 1450 if in doubt, or check the Facebook site or Team App for an update.
